Neighborhood
NORTH BEACON HILL
North Beacon Hill is an energized central Seattle neighborhood just up from the International District. The Beacon light rail station has been open since 2009 and that has continued to push development and growth. This is a neighborhood where bodegas that serve some of the best elotes on a stick like La Tienda Mexicana El Oaxaque live side by side with venerated Neapolitan pizza joints like Bar Del Corso. Known for its plentiful Asian markets and retail, there are over 20+ diverse cafés, restaurants and bars within a few neighborhood blocks.
El Centro de la Raza, Seattle’s cultural center for the Latinx community is right in the middle of the neighborhood at the old Beacon Hill Elementary School. Plaza Roberto Maestas is a lively square that brings together the neighborhood with community and seasonal celebrations.
North Beacon is also home to one of the best recreational parks in the city, Jefferson Park. The Olmstead designed park has lawn bowling, a skate park, a community center, a 9-hole golf course and the park leads right into the 43 acre, forested Cheasty Greenspace. With views of the Duwamish River, the city skyline, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains- this neighborhood is perched over the center of the city.
CHEASTY GREENSPACE
This home is perched over the Cheasty Greenspace, a 43+ acre forested space and the largest wooded parkland in the Rainier Valley. It comprises a trail system, including wheelchair-accessible trails, undeveloped remnant forest, and a future mountain bike park.
The Cheasty Mountain Bike and Pedestrian Trail Pilot is a community-driven project that is years in the making. The project provides recreational opportunities for families and neighbors to access nature through our urban park greenspaces. Phase One/South Loop and is set to start construction this summer and run through October 2021.
This is a natural space with deep ties to the community. Since 2007, Friends of Cheasty Greenspace Mt. View (FCGMV) has been an active, community-led volunteer organization in SE Seattle dedicated to reclaiming, restoring, reimagining, and reconnecting Cheasty Greenspace.
